Story Idea: A Very CRISPR Future

What if.. in the not too distant future.. creating genetic creatures is as simple as AI prompt and a genetic printer?

“Make me three foot tall dragon, that DOESN’T breathe fire”. And off it goes, creating just the right DNA for the job. The DNA is put into a growth tank where it has all the building blocks for life.

Voila, dragon.

What could go wrong?

What would that look like after a few years? What would it look like after 100 years? 1000?

Maybe the drama is focused around governments trying to control this technology? Could it be contained? Can any new technology really be contained? Are there any examples in history of that happening?

Maybe an interesting parallel is the Shogun Tokugawa using guns brought over from early Dutch traders to conquer Japan.. only to banish them for 100 years. But that required absolute rule. I can’t imagine that being possible in this day and age. There are too many bad actors and the Internet easily allows information to slip out.

Regardless, it would be fun to explore the consequences. Maybe it could be a trilogy: Ground Zero, 100 years later, 1000 years later.

Strong Jurassic Park vibes.. but more.. creative. Though, I think it was one of the later Jurassic World movies that touched on this maybe? I think they made super dinosaurs. Anyway, everything is rehashed. The fun is thinking through the process.

Blah blah blah..
